Conference

Welcome to The Batschelet Conference on Intercultural and Intersectional Competence for School Leaders: Building an Empirical Base for Professional Development

The conference took place October 18-19, 2023 and connected scholars conducting research on intercultural competence and intersectional competence with peers from around the world with the goal of identifying promising areas for research and establishing working teams. Featuring experts in intercultural competence from across the U.S. and internationally, specific themes were explored and discussed.

Participants had the opportunity to join teams to build an open-access resource library and draft an accompanying textbook to support K-16 educators in building and maintaining communication about intercultural competence.

This event hosted K-16 educators in fields related to Education, Social Sciences/Studies and the Humanities, and for others involved in NGOs and the private sector who were interested in joining research that supports educators to teach students to see and interpret relationships between cultures.

The conference featured Dr. Keiko Ikeda of Kansai University in Osaka, Japan, as the keynote speaker.
